Maker fee is charged when a trader places an order that adds liquidity to the order book, such as a limit order that is not executed immediately.
Taker fee is charged when a trader places an order that gets executed instantly by matching existing orders, thereby removing liquidity from the market. Usually, maker fees are lower than taker fees.
